Larry Busdeker, Superintendent of the Hancock County Education Service Center, talks with Sheriff Michael Heldman about the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, why Sheriff Heldman started the program in the early 2000’s, and the positive impact this program has had on students in the county.
The School Resource Officer program was developed in conjunction with Sheriff Heldman’s Community Oriented Policing (COP) philosophy about building positive connections with students and law enforcement offers. Sheriff Heldman works directly with the schools to develop programs and find the right funding that works for each school’s unique needs. The safety of all residents of Hancock County, including students, has always been priority one for Sheriff Heldman. Re-elect Michael Heldman for Hancock County Sheriff on March 17, 2020.
